This is Cedar Hill’s “Ram or Lion” concept. The name just means post coming from that side, so Ram is a post from the right and Lion has the post coming from the left.

This is a full field read by our QB. QB checks leverage of Danger key on pre-snap and through 1st part of drop to determine if he’s throwing the vertical ball to the post.

If route space is capped by Danger key, the QB’s eyes progress to the defender key and dig route. If the defender key walls or disrupts the release, the  QB’s eyes move to drag route. The hot read is drag to check released RB. If we get a 1 high look (Cloud or Sky), the QB’s eyes will still manipulate the defender by working his eyes to post on 1st step in drop,  but he’ll work the comeback route away from post side to the drag.

We rep this constantly by QB calling his progression in practice, against air, in classroom and versus a defense. QB’s eyes and patience are necessary.
